Upcoming Events This Week

5/13/2020

Winifred here letting you know about two upcoming OA related events!

First event:  Let’s social distance together!

One of our fellows, Mardi, has graciously invited everyone who can come to Bring a Brown bag lunch for a picnic in her yard overlooking Lake Murray. There is plenty of room to spread out in the sunshine and fresh air, so distancing should not be a problem.

That is this Friday, May 15 from 12pm - 2pm

Chairs and atmosphere provided...just bring your own lunch and drink if you'd like.  Her address is 229 Twin Gates Road, Irmo, South Carolina 29063.

Second Event:  Sunday speaker meeting is back!

Come to the 5:30 Sunday newcomer meeting on Zoom to hear Shawn share her experience, strength and hope on steps 4 & 5.  I hope we fill the screen with people to hear her compelling wisdom.

World Service Business Conference results

5/13/2020

From Bonnie Lewsaw, Chair, Board of Trustees:

I would like to thank everyone for your participation in the 2020 World Service Business Conference (WSBC) and for allowing me the honor of serving as your chair.

Our procedures for this year have been unprecedented to say the least. This WSBC would not have been possible without a great deal of patience, determination, and trust from everyone involved. We have experienced the Principles of our Traditions and Concepts as never before.

We had 180 delegates registered from thirteen countries (Australia, Brazil, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, USA).

We now have concluded the two critical parts of our business—the election of new trustees and the review of the literature motions.

please review the full report in your email from CMI or at https://oa.org/world-service-business-conference/ once it is uploaded by WSO

Where Do I Start? pamphlet

5/13/2020

We want to welcome all of our newcomers and returning members.  World Service Office created a new pamphlet in 2018 called "Where do I start?"  This is a combination of the smaller pamphlets that used to be included in the Welcome Packet.

Greet newcomers and help them get started with OA's welcome pamphlet. Packed with key information about OA's Twelve Step program of recovery, this 32-page pamphlet includes the Fifteen Questions, Tools (abridged), Plans of Eating, OA Promise, AA Third and Seventh Step Prayers, "Welcome Home," and so much more. With Where Do I Start? in hand, newcomers get an introduction to OA and can find answers to frequently asked questions, such as:
  • What is compulsive eating?
  • Can OA help me if I am bulimic or anorexic?
  • Is OA a religious society?
  • What is the Twelve Step recovery program?

Help newcomers start their journey of recovery; welcome them with Where Do I Start? Copyright 2018.

Please reply to this email with your mailing address if you would like to receive one.   This service is being offered by your Newcomer and Twelfth Step Within committees.

Zoom Meeting Updates

4/5/2020

Our CMI Chair has created Zoom meetings for each group.  If you have any questions about Zoom meetings, please contact DJ at 803-772-7999 or ask your group CMI rep.

Zoom has enhanced their security starting today.  Please review the email they shared:

We’re always striving to deliver you a secure virtual meeting environment. Starting April 5th, we’ve chosen to enable passwords on your meetings and turn on Waiting Rooms by default as additional security enhancements to protect your privacy.
Meeting Passwords Enabled “On”
Going forward, your previously scheduled meetings (including those scheduled via your Personal Meeting ID) will have passwords enabled. If your attendees are joining via a meeting link, there will be no change to their joining experience. For attendees who join meetings by manually entering a Meeting ID, they will need to enter a password to access the meeting.
For attendees joining manually, we highly recommend re-sharing the updated meeting invitation before your workweek begins. Here’s how you can do that:
Log in to your account, visit your Meetings tab, select your upcoming meeting by name, and copy the new meeting invitation to share with your attendees. For step-by-step instructions, please watch this 2-minute video or read this FAQ.
For meetings scheduled moving forward, the meeting password can be found in the invitation. For instant meetings, the password will be displayed in the Zoom client. The password can also be found in the meeting join URL.
Virtual Waiting Room Turned on by Default
Going forward, the virtual waiting room feature will be automatically turned on by default. The Waiting Room is just like it sounds: It’s a virtual staging area that prevents people from joining a meeting until the host is ready.
How do I admit participants into my meeting?
It’s simple. As the host, once you’ve joined, you’ll begin to see the number of participants in your waiting room within the Manage Participants icon. Select Manage Participants to view the full list of participants, then, you’ll have the option to admit individually by selecting the blue Admit button or all at once with the Admit All option on the top right-hand side of your screen.  For step-by-step instructions, please watch this 2-minute video.
Check out these resources to learn How to Manage Your Waiting Room and Secure Your Meetings with Virtual Waiting Rooms.
For more information on how to leverage passwords and Waiting Rooms to secure your meetings, please visit our Knowledge Center, attend a daily live demo, or visit our Blog.
Please reach out to our Support Team if you have any questions at support@zoom.us.
Thank You!

Virtual Meetings and 7th Tradition

3/22/2020

During this unprecedented time, many of us are "meeting" virtually.  To support this, you can find all of the meeting updates on a new page on our website.  It will list meetings that are closed and meetings that are using Zoom, along with the meeting ID.  On the resources page, you will also find Zoom FAQs. If these resources do not help, please reply to this email and we will find someone who can help you.

Another thought about meeting virtually is how to keep the 7th tradition.  Some ideas would be to support the Zoom subscriber (if they have a paid subscription Zoom account), support our Intergroup, Region and World Service, or to give in non-monetary ways.

Please review the 7th tradition pamphlet on the OA website:
