Twelfth Step Within Day

12/12/2020

From Region 8:

OA’s Twelfth Step Within Day-December 12th, 2020
Every December 12th, Overeater Anonymous groups and service boards around the world celebrate and plan events for Twelfth Step Within Day, a day to support the still-suffering compulsive eater within our Fellowship.
Here are some actions to take:
·        Make as many outreach calls as you can by 12 noon!
·        Reach out to a member (s) you haven’t seen in a Zoom meeting in awhile.
·        Write an article, a poem, or share your thoughts on the 12th step, 12th tradition, 12th promise, or 12th principle.
·        Use the day to reflect on the strength of your own recovery,
·        Write down twelve actions that will support your recovery and the recovery
·        Share the list.
·        Write an article for your service body’s newsletter.
·        Did you hear someone on a meeting share something that was causing them distress, or pain/struggle. Why not reach out to them after the meeting. Ask for their number in the Chat feature on Zoom.
·        Call a sponsee who is struggling with the physical, emotional, or spiritual part of recovery.

We can offer our honesty, experience, strength, hope, support and encouragement to a member who is struggling in program.  On December 12th, reach out and help a fellow in program who may still be sick and suffering!

What and when is Twelfth Step Within Day?December 12 (12/12) each year is designated as OA’s International Twelfth Step Within Day. The purpose is to encourage OA service bodies, meetings, and individual members to reach out to those within the Fellowship who are still suffering from compulsive eating behaviors.

Welcome Newcomers!
We are so happy to have you join our OA meetings and we want to make sure you have everything you need.

We are offering a Newcomers Connect Session on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at  5:30pm EST/ 4:30 CST/ 3:30 MST/ 2:30 PST.  Your anonymity is protected and safe here.  You can speak or just listen.  You can turn on your camera and wave to everyone or hide your video.  This is an opportunity to meet each other and answer your questions.

We have planned to cover things like:
  • What is abstinence?
  • What is a food plan?
  • Basic 12-step meeting etiquette and how to practice living in the real world
  • Where and how to order literature
If you have a question for the committee, you can send them to us and they will remain anonymous.  We will also offer time for any of your live questions.  If you have the question, someone else has it too.  We encourage your bravery to ask.

We are requesting an RSVP for a great door prize (you must be present to win):  The newest OA book Body Image, Relationships and Sexuality.  Every newcomer who attends and has not received a newcomer pamphlet and/or coin will be eligible to receive them with your attendance at the session, too!

Please RSVP by 5pm EST on Sunday, August 23, 2020 by replying to this email.  If you have to RSVP a regret, we are willing to offer 1:1 or 1:many sessions at other times.  Just let us know about some times that work better for you.

We'd like to gather some information in advance, but only if you are willing to share:
  • First Name and Last Name *Initial Only*:
  • Phone Number:
  • Do you have a sponsor?  If yes, what kind?
  • How are you feeling?

We hope to connect with you at the Newcomers Connect Session.  We will send an email to those who accept the RSVP with all the Zoom details.  We can even practice Zoom with you before the meeting if you're new to Zoom.  You can also attend the Zoom session by telephone (long distance minutes) if you don't have internet service where you are.

We will love you until you love yourself.  In fact, we already love you unconditionally.

SATURDAY - Social Distance Outdoor Meeting

7/23/2020

Let's physically distance in person for a meeting!

Our fellow, Mardi, has graciously invited everyone to her lovely lakeside home who can come for the 10:00am meeting, Saturday, July 25th.  If you cannot attend in person, it will also be on Zoom.

You are welcome to bring your significant other.  They can choose to participate in the meeting or frolic on their own.

After the meeting, we can swim and play in Lake Murray.  If you like, you can bring your own bagged lunch or pick something up from a nearby restaurant for a picnic in her yard overlooking Lake Murray.

There is plenty of room to spread out in the sunshine or shade in the fresh air, as well as a screened porch, so distancing will not be a problem.

Chairs and atmosphere provided - just bring your own lunch and drink if you like.

The address is
229 Twin Gates Road
Irmo SC 29063
